Welcome to Heirloom Seeds! We are your source for bulk quantities of heirloom seeds. Oftentimes the exciting but arcane heirlooms are only available in very small quantities, making it difficult for small professional growers, bedding plant growers, and larger-scale gardeners to get the unique seeds they need. Heirloomseeds.com is our answer to this issue. We have selected our favorite varieties for larger-scale production. Heirlooms with characteristics like reliable growing habit, gourmet flavor, or attractive eye appeal have made the cut, and we are delighted to bring these unsung seeds to the forefront of the small farming and gardening revolution.
For over 30 years heirloomseeds.com has been a trusted source for open-pollinated, heirloom seeds. Owners Tom and Barb Hauch dedicated their lives to the work of preserving heirloom diversity and promoting heirloom seeds, and for that we are incredibly grateful. Tom and Barb have decided to retire and pass on their business, but the site and name will carry on. We intend to honor the work that heirloomseeds.com has done by continuing to offer high-quality heirlooms, now with a specific mission to provide larger quantities of these beloved treasures.
Our sister company, Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, (Rareseeds.com) has been selling seeds for over 20 years. In that time we have seen a sharp increase in the demand for rare, unusual and exotic heirloom varieties. In purchasing heirloomseeds.com, we have decided to make this company our outlet for small quantities of bulk seed. By dedicating a separate website and company to bulk seed offering, we will be able to fine tune our focus to the needs of professional growers. This means that larger-scale growers such as market farmers, community gardens, chefs, homesteaders and those with larger gardens will be able to search our site for exactly what they are looking for.
We ask growers to please note that many of these varieties are heirloom, which means that they will at times require more attention to growing. That being said, when you grow an heirloom that is well-suited to your climate, it can grow exceptionally well -- sometimes better than a generally adapted hybrid variety. It is a matter of matching your choices to your location, or understanding the needs of your variety!
Please also note that our seeds are NOT currently certified organic. We work with a large, diverse network of seed growers to source our seeds. Many of them practice natural production methods. It is often possible to grow our seeds on an organic operation and maintain certification. However, it is up to the certified grower to talk with your organic accrediting agent to ensure that you are adhering to the rules. Our seeds are non-treated, non-patented, non-hybrid, and non-GMO.
We hope you enjoy this colorful selection of heirloom and open-pollinated crops we have assembled. We feel these are some of our all-time favorites for both home and market gardeners. Check out our website heirloomseeds.com for additional varieties and information. We wish you a successful gardening year. Please let us know if we can help you in any way.
Thanks so much,
Jere & Emilee Gettle
