55-75 days. This massive stem lettuce variety is popular in southwest China. Celtuce is a type of lettuce that is grown for its large, swollen stem. Green Mountain celtuce produces jumbo stems that remain crunchy, tender, and juicy as they reach epic proportions. Great raw in salads, stir fried, and even as a gluten-free pasta substitute. A carefree and prolific variety. Introduce something entirely new and delicious to your market offerings or culinary repertoire with celtuce! This variety should be planted in the fall, about 50 days before the first frost. If spring planted it will make a still delicious, but usually smaller stalk. Also of note are the leaves of this lettuce, which are among the most tasty, sweet and crunchy, much like the flavor and texture of Romaine lettuce. The leaves can be lightly harvested for over a month as the stalk matures.
